about

Shiny Sea Glass opens with a chord progression that is loosely derived from the opening of Philip Glass's 1982 film, Koyanisqaatsi. The slow-tempo sections of the song are meant to evoke, but not directly replicate, the Glass style.

When the temp picks up, the song becomes more conventionally "synth pop," and includes homages to two of my strongest synth pop influences, Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk. In fact, there is a direct quote from "The Models" toward the end of the song.
